Feng Shui Mistake – Using red to activate your fame and success

November 14th, 2011

Careful! Are you sure you’re not actually inviting arguments and heart disease?

The Compass School is recognized by Classical Feng Shui and is very powerful – but only if the calculations are true to the authentic Compass School, and only if they are performed correctly. Once again, you must be on guard against the over-simplified “New Age” version that rigidly assigns life situations (wealth, relationships, fame for example), as well as elements and colors to each direction without taking into consideration any other factors.

For instance, according to this New Age Compass version, the north direction is associated with career; northeast is related to knowledge; east is family and health; southeast is wealth; south is fame; southwest is relationships; west is children and the northwest is helpful people. According to the Lo Shu Bagau used by the Compass School, north is associated with the water element. Because of this, many New Age Feng Shui practitioners will recommend that everyone should always put a water fountain or fish tank in the north part of their home to tap into “career” luck. This is devastatingly – dangerously – oversimplified. As we saw earlier in Mistake #1, putting water in an improper area without considering timing, unseen energies, or planetary influences can trigger car accidents, sickness, and loss of funds and go against the very nature of placing water there in the first place – that of increasing prosperity! The southwest area is associated with love and relationships according to the New Age Compass School. So if you’re looking for a new “love” to come into your life, practitioners of this school will tell you to place boulders in the southwest of your garden, or to place a pair of decorative geese or crystal hearts in the southwest area of your bedroom or home. This overly simplified new age version of the original Compass School does not take into consideration the placement of elements according to the movement of time. For example, if you place those crystal hearts in the southwest of your house during a month with certain planetary influences, it won’t be love you attract, but instead the potential for sickness.

Untrained use of the Lo Shu Bagua can set these “everyone should always” traps in every area of your home! For example, if you’re looking for fame, then New Age Compass School practitioners might tell you to paint the south part of your home bright red because it is related to the fire element. But what about the interplay of energies and timing? What about the natal chart of you and your home? What about the surrounding property? All these factors can dramatically change the quality of the energy in that southern area. In fact, they can change the energy pattern so dramatically that instead of inviting fame and success, painting your southern room red could actually usher in arguments, eye ailments … even heart disease.

Feng Shui Mistake – Believing any home that doesn’t face east or northeast spells doom for your family.

November 11th, 2011

Careful: According to Vaastu (Indian Feng Shui), beneficial energies flow from those directions, but your own ideal home might face a different direction.

As a Feng Shui and Vaastu practitioner, I’m often called on to help clients who are considering a move to find the most auspicious home. Thanks to many of the Vaastu books on the market today — and even some Vaastu consultants – many clients come to me convinced that the only directions a house should face are north, east or northeast. Any other directions and the occupants are doomed and have “bad vaastu!” Again, this is pure nonsense and shows a lack of understanding of the science behind Vaastu.

While positive energies certainly emanate from the north, east, and northeast, it doesn’t mean that your house must face these directions. In fact, I had one client whose house faced east and it couldn’t have been a worse orientation for her. The fact is that your home doesn’t have to face one of the so-called “good Vaastu” directions for you to take advantage of the energetic rays coming from these directions. In other words, look for a home with plenty of windows located in the north, east and northeast areas.

Feng Shui Mistake: Decluttering “cures” bad luck

November 8th, 2011

Careful! Cleaning out the closet and dejunking the garage won’t keep you from going broke.

One of the biggest myths is that Feng Shui is simply about clearing away clutter. In fact, most of the popular pseudo-feng shui books are really just tools for decluttering and getting organized. Of course it is helpful to clear out junk, discard things you no longer use or love, and get rid of anything unfinished (and not likely to get finished). Clutter is “stuck energy” and having too much of it stuck in your house can lead to depression, put your life on hold, weigh you down, stifle creativity, and create disorganization and debilitating procrastination. And I guarantee that if you clear out clutter you will come into money, gifts, opportunities, or other good things. That’s because one of the laws of the universe is that nature abhors a vacuum and will do whatever it can to fill up that void or space. One of the fastest ways to get what you want in life is to “energetically” make space for it. Thus, clearing clutter will give you more space and it can work wonders in helping you attract what you desire.

However, authentic Feng Shui is much deeper than cleaning out your junk drawers. You can have a clean, spare and organized house yet it can still be full of unseen energies that will eventually cause miscarriages, bad health, financial setbacks, even adultery. I have seen beautiful and well organized homes with not an ounce of clutter where the occupants still feel depressed, have legal and money hassles, and are always arguing. Remember, while clearing clutter is good, the real power of Feng Shui lies in clearing negative influences and rebalancing the flow to harmonize with your specific home and your specific energetic makeup.

Could YOUR House Be Haunted?? Feng Shui can help!

October 25th, 2011

Ever wondered if ghosts are real? Several times I’ve encountered “haunted houses” while doing Feng Shui and Vaastu consultations and let me tell you that ghosts are very real. But while ghosts are nothing to be laughed about, they are nothing to be feared, either. Still, a “haunted” house isn’t always a harmonious, healthy or prosperous house – so it’s good to know how Feng Shui can help clear them away. But first, let’s learn a little more about ghosts themselves.

The ancient Vedic texts explain that a ghost — and there are many types of them — is a soul trapped on the astral plane without a physical body. Sometimes ghosts don’t pass on to the next after life because they are so strongly attached to people or their former place of residence.

Usually, however, a ghost has been the victim of a sudden, violent death or a suicide and now “haunts” the place where the horrific event took place. Since the ghost no longer has a physical body, he also does not have material senses to fulfill the human needs he still experiences. Thus, the ghost lives in a state of confusion and frustration, tied to his former-life existence and stuck in limbo between the material and spiritual worlds until he is released from the astral plane.

Certain homes are more prone to attracting ghosts. And if you are looking to buy a home, be especially mindful of buying a home with one of these characteristics:

1. A house where someone has died. Sometime back I was analyzing a home that a client was thinking of purchasing. The needle on my compass kept moving nonstop in 360 degree circles and simply would not stop. I knew there that a ghost has to be present. A little detective work revealed that sure enough, the current homeowner’s mother had recently died from an illness. Her soul, however, had NOT passed on. Because of her attachment — either to family members or to the home itself – the mother’s soul was still lingering.

There are ancient Vedic mantras that can be recited to remove ghosts. I chanted one of these and then asked the ghost not to interfere with my efforts to get a compass reading. Finally after about 15 minutes, the needle on my compass stopped spinning abruptly and I was able to get a basic directional reading on the house.

Older homes are of course more likely to have ghosts since previous occupants may still be attached to the property. If someone has died in the home, it is always a good idea to inquire how the person died as well. If a person died of natural causes, that’s better. But if a suicide or murder took place in a home, then it’s a home you may want to avoid since the ghosts will be more unfriendly or more hostile and it will take a highly advanced spiritual person to release these ghosts from the home.

2. Homes near cemeteries or slaughter-houses. If the thought of going to a cemetery at night spooks you, then just imagine living near one. It’s not just folklore: ghosts do lurk around these places since they may still be attached to their buried bodies. Also, these places generate a lot of yin energies. Since a home should generally be a yang place – filled with lively energy – the overabundance of yin energies could stifle health, harmony and prosperity.

3. Homes that are excessively dark and damp. A dark, damp, musty home can easily attract ghosts. Again, this creates a yin environment that attracts ghostly energies. To create an environment that is far less welcoming for ghosts, take care to eliminate darkness and bring in the cleansing, energizing power of natural sunlight.

4. Homes built on top of grave sites or battlefields. You’d think this would be common sense, but often time passes and developers do indeed build on such sites. Would-be homeowners aren’t even aware of the fact that they are trying to live their lives on top of powerful streams of yin energies and – often – “stuck” souls. The ghosts make themselves known by playing little pranks (like switching people’s drinks at a Dallas bar built on top of a graveyard) or causing far more serious concerns.

If you are living in a home and you find yourself troubled by these ghostly entities, here are a few remedies which may help you rid your home of them:

  • Spiritual sound vibrations – The most powerful way to clear a space of ghosts is reciting the Holy Names of God. For example, there are very specific Vedic mantras that when chanted will immediately remove ghosts. Christians can recite the Lord’s prayer. People of any religious tradition can repeat over and over the holy names of God. It doesn’t matter which names you chant as long as the names have spiritual meaning for you. If you prefer not to do the chanting yourself, get a CD of sacred mantras and play it continuously to raise the spiritual vibrations in a house.
  • Combine the four essential elements – In addition to the spiritual sound vibrations, four elements are needed to purify a space: fire, ether, water and earth. Sprinkle holy water along the main entrances of your home. You can also place salt (the earth element) along the main entrances of a building, windowsill, or even the four corners of a room. To represent the fire and ether elements, burn frankincense or sage. In fact, burning frankincense incense or using a sage smudging stick regularly is a good idea for ridding a space of negative vibrations.
  • Display holy objects - Placing holy objects and sacred pictures strategically throughout a house is also effective in creating higher vibrations and repelling ghosts.
  • Keep your home clean – Dirtiness attracts ghosts while a clean home has the higher energetic vibrations that repel ghosts. If rooms are excessively dark, then use full spectrum lighting, lighter colors, open up windows, etc. Darkness also attracts ghosts so bringing in light can help to remove them.

I know that all this may sound silly and superstitious. But the fact is that because ghosts pull in negative, overly yin energies, they can profoundly depress the positive energies in a house. So, even if no one ever sees a ghost, people living in homes where ghostly energies are at work may find themselves “haunted” by misfortune, health and mental stress, and troubled relationships. Best advice: if you even think there might be a ghost, have a Feng Shui consultant help you do a little detective work on what’s happening energetically in your home and make suggestions on the best way to clear the space and restore a supportive, nourishing energetic makeup.

Is this a passing fad or just some new age superstition?

October 7th, 2011

Unfortunately, inexperienced practitioners and popularized versions of Feng Shui have led many to view this ancient science as a frivolous fad. Classical Feng Shui and Vaastu, however, have been around more than 6,000 years — secretly used by emperors and kings to safeguard their wealth, power, and well-being. Neither is this superstition. These are environmental sciences grounded in numerical patterns and mathematical calculations that assess the physical, directional, and spatial energies at play in us and in our environment.

Practiced by more than 1 billion people worldwide, the ancient science of Classical Feng Shui identifies and manages the unseen energies that exist in our environment. Classical Feng Shui uses principles of environmental science and complex mathematical formulas to analyze exactly how the powers of the land, time and space affect individuals’ finances, health, relationships, and career in any particular period. Classical Feng Shui experts use these analyses to give clients the power to harness beneficial energies while reducing negative energies.

How is Classical Feng Shui different than other types of Feng Shui?

October 6th, 2011

Authentic or Classical Feng Shui has been around for thousands of years in Asia but came around to the west about 20 years ago. The most popular version of Feng Shui being practiced in the west is a New Age version that has become so over-simplified from science into interior decorating, color therapy, clutter clearing, and placing Chinese cultural objects to ensure good luck. The New Age version is not only frivolous, it is in many cases dangerous. (See our free report, “The 5 Biggest Feng Shui and Vaastu Mistakes Most People Make… And How to Avoid Them“).

By contrast, Classical Feng Shui applies well-defined scientific principles and energy theories to individual situations. Instead of dangerous “one size fits all” recommendations, clients receive personal analysis of their unique interaction with their specific environment. That’s vital, because every structure has its own energy map that determines how it will interact with an individual over time. To assess this, Classical Feng Shui uses a sophisticated compass and complex mathematical formulas and calculations to examine both the physical environment (location and orientation of the building and its relationship to surrounding environmental features) and the quality of energy affecting a building in a specific time period. And by doing both, Classical Feng Shui helps you avoid making mistakes and missing valuable opportunities.

How do I find a good Feng Shui or Vaastu Consultant?

September 30th, 2011

The key is to look for a practitioner certified in Classical Feng Shui. This immediately clears away the New Age school consultants and hobbyists whose over-simplified recommendations can prove so dangerous. This is vital: non-authentic Feng Shui deals only with surface energies, not the internal energies which are the root cause of problems. Even more alarming is that in the hands of amateurs, “cures” such as mirrors, crystals or water fountains can actually cause disastrous imbalances that manifest as illness, discord, financial loss and other negative situations.

Like every individual, every home or office has its own “natal chart”. If a consultant doesn’t ask for birthdates, the date you moved into a property, the date it was built, etc. – the consultant is not practicing Classical Feng Shui. Another tip off is the type of compass the consultant uses. A Classical Feng Shui Consultant will use a sophisticated compass called a luo pan that has Chinese characters. Again, if your consultant uses any other type of compass (or doesn’t use a compass at all), beware.

Finally, you want more than a consultant who has simply studied Classical Feng Shui – you want a consultant who is actually certified. Worldwide, only a very few of the students who have studied Classical Feng Shui actually become certified. This is a crucial distinction because the authentic skills and closely guarded secrets of Classical Feng Shui can’t be learned from books: they can only be conferred on students by a few internationally recognized Feng Shui Masters.
