Feng Shui & Vaastu: It’s Serious Business

Monday, March 5th, 2012

The way your office is set up, where you place your desk, the colors you use, and even the lighting all have an effect on how you do business. Authentic Feng Shui can help you clear away negative energies – and energy blockages – that can sabotage efficiency, productivity and profitability. Advanced Classical Feng Shui formulas can even forecast where and when risks and opportunities might arise and what you can do to assure the greatest possible benefit.

While these calculations and even basic furniture placement are tied to the unique energy makeup of you and your office, these three general principles can help you create a supportive work environment.

1. Clear away objects that sabotage energy flow. Clutter isn’t just messy; it’s a magnet for attracting negative energy. If your desk and floor are scattered with unfinished projects, papers, files and mail, energy can’t flow freely. Trapped energy either goes stagnant or builds up into a force that can make you feel jittery, overwhelmed, irritable, fatigued or depressed. In such an environment, you’ll find it’s hard to concentrate and complete tasks. Problems build up, creativity suffers and conflicts arise. Every item should have a designated home where you can find and easily access it. Take time to organize your files and use them so you don’t have to keep pieces of paper “in sight” just so you’ll know where they are. Clear the jumble from your desktop so that your eye – and the energy in your space – have calm places to rest. And don’t forget the jumble on your computer: regularly clear away unnecessary email and files.

2. Reposition your desk. A sizable and neatly arranged desk attracts power and confidence. As a general rule, the best position for a desk is in the far right corner diagonally opposite from the door with your back to the wall or catty corner to the wall. In addition, try to avoid these three situations:

Don’t put your desk in a direct line with the door. The energy coming from another office or hallway can cause discomfort. You may find yourself unable to concentrate and want to leave your desk.

Don’t sit with your back to the door. You should have a clear view of the room and office door. This gives you energetic control over the space which, in turn, attracts energies that support you in feeling capable, relaxed, and confident.

Don’t sit at a desk that places you directly under an exposed overhead beam. That beam can concentrate energies in the area right over your head. If you spend eight or ten hours at your desk, you could find you suffer from headaches and you could literally feel you are “under too much pressure.”

3. Balance your office lighting. Lighting doesn’t just affect your eyes or even your mood. It also affects the energy in your office. Light – even sunlight – that is too bright creates an excessively “yang” energy that can cause agitation, conflict, and difficulty concentrating. By the same token, light that’s too dim creates an excessively “yin” energy that can produce fatigue and make it difficult to project a confident, capable presence. Feng Shui principles help balance your office’s lighting so that it’s bright enough to energize the space without disrupting harmony and concentration. Consider using natural spectrum light bulbs – they provide a more balanced light than traditional bulbs. Outfit windows with blinds that can filter and direct sunlight to prevent harsh shadows and glare. Consider desk lamps – they give you more flexibility in adjusting your overall lighting and then help balance the glare your computer screen can produce.

5 Classical Feng Shui Tips to Ensure You Make A Date With Prosperity!

Friday, February 24th, 2012

Are you about to open up a bank account, get married, schedule surgery or make a business presentation? The date you select can have a tremendous impact on the outcome.

In Asia, people do not schedule major life events without first checking to see whether a certain date is auspicious — with the planets aligned in your favor for a certain event. This may sound silly to westerners, but Classical Feng Shui calculations can in fact assess whether a particular date has good energy for you and can support an auspicious outcome for the actions you take upon that date.

In today’s economy, who can afford not to use every edge in making plans and moving forward?

Here are 5 situations where Feng Shui date selection can make all the difference:

1. A Major Purchase A Classical Feng Shui practitioner can pinpoint an auspicious date by matching your energy to the right combination of planetary influences. For instance, Feng Shui can reveal days when the combination of influences will virtually guarantee that the car you buy on those dates will give you trouble – and could even attract multiple accidents. Even if you’re not a reckless driver, an inauspicious purchase date can set the tone for what’s ahead.

Case in point: Someone I know bought a brand new Audi a few years ago. He had it regularly serviced by an experienced mechanic. But a few months ago, the car’s engine broke down completely. Even worse, the damage was caused by a small error on the part of the mechanic which voided the car’s warranty. The Audi owner was left with a completely worthless car on which he still owed a substantial amount of money. I went back and looked at the actual purchase date and what I saw shocked me: The stars on this day for this particular person indicated that the purchase would be “short lived”.

2. Making Investments If you buy investments on a day when there is money luck in your unique Feng Shui chart, you will make money. If there’s no money luck in your chart, you WILL NOT make money — guaranteed. Yes, even in this volatile market, you can still make money IF you choose the right date. But on an inauspicious day, even a pick that’s touted as a “darling” of Wall Street will still result in a loss for you. That’s right: even if the price of that stock rises over time, the energies of that investment are still linked to the inauspicious energies at work the day you bought it and inevitably circumstances in your own life will cause you to have to sell at a loss. Keep in mind, everything in the universe is energy and while everything appears random, nothing is a coincidence.

3. Surgery If you need surgery or a medical procedure, selecting an auspicious date is of paramount importance. Suppose, for instance, you’re having surgery to remove a cancerous or even a benign tumor. You don’t want to have that procedure on a day when certain energetic influences favor “regrowth”. Instead, you want to pick a day where the energies will help ensure that the tumor will not grow back. Similarly, if you’re undergoing plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons, you want to select a date that indicates you will be pleased with the results — and help you avoid a botched nose job, complications from a face lift or other unpleasant surprises.

4. Business Decisions If you’re submitting proposals, opening up a bank account, taking on a partner, or even incorporating your business, date selection can give you a significant advantage. Even if you’re undertaking advertising or marketing projects, certain planetary influences can make your efforts easier — and give you an advantage over competitors. Suppose, for example, that you want to incorporate your new business. Choosing an auspicious date is critical because it becomes the birthdate of your business. Through Feng Shui, you can look ahead and find a date that is marked for you with money-making potential. I had a client whose business simply limped along despite all the hard work she poured into it. After analyzing her incorporation date, I suggested she close the old corporation and reincorporate on a new date. Within less than 6 weeks of reincorporating on a date that had strong money-luck potential, her business started booming like she had never experienced before. She wasn’t working harder — but her business horoscope was now working with her rather than against her.

5. Renovating If you’re planning on renovating your home, the date on which work begins is crucial. In India, there are even certain times during the year when no construction work takes place because of certain inauspicious energies. When you combine your own Feng Shui horoscope with planetary influences, certain dates can indicate energies that will attract major delays, shoddy construction, and disappointing results. You’ve heard horror stories where contractors run off with the money and leave the job unfinished. Taking the precaution of picking a “good” date can help prevent that from happening – and it can help make sure the improvements live up to your highest expectations.

Bottom line: Your decisions and actions take on the energetic pattern of the days when they are “born”. By taking the time to select auspicious days, you can literally make a date with prosperity.

Is this a passing fad or just some new age superstition?

Friday, October 7th, 2011

Unfortunately, inexperienced practitioners and popularized versions of Feng Shui have led many to view this ancient science as a frivolous fad. Classical Feng Shui and Vaastu, however, have been around more than 6,000 years — secretly used by emperors and kings to safeguard their wealth, power, and well-being. Neither is this superstition. These are environmental sciences grounded in numerical patterns and mathematical calculations that assess the physical, directional, and spatial energies at play in us and in our environment.

Practiced by more than 1 billion people worldwide, the ancient science of Classical Feng Shui identifies and manages the unseen energies that exist in our environment. Classical Feng Shui uses principles of environmental science and complex mathematical formulas to analyze exactly how the powers of the land, time and space affect individuals’ finances, health, relationships, and career in any particular period. Classical Feng Shui experts use these analyses to give clients the power to harness beneficial energies while reducing negative energies.

How do I find a good Feng Shui or Vaastu Consultant?

Friday, September 30th, 2011

The key is to look for a practitioner certified in Classical Feng Shui. This immediately clears away the New Age school consultants and hobbyists whose over-simplified recommendations can prove so dangerous. This is vital: non-authentic Feng Shui deals only with surface energies, not the internal energies which are the root cause of problems. Even more alarming is that in the hands of amateurs, “cures” such as mirrors, crystals or water fountains can actually cause disastrous imbalances that manifest as illness, discord, financial loss and other negative situations.

Like every individual, every home or office has its own “natal chart”. If a consultant doesn’t ask for birthdates, the date you moved into a property, the date it was built, etc. – the consultant is not practicing Classical Feng Shui. Another tip off is the type of compass the consultant uses. A Classical Feng Shui Consultant will use a sophisticated compass called a luo pan that has Chinese characters. Again, if your consultant uses any other type of compass (or doesn’t use a compass at all), beware.

Finally, you want more than a consultant who has simply studied Classical Feng Shui – you want a consultant who is actually certified. Worldwide, only a very few of the students who have studied Classical Feng Shui actually become certified. This is a crucial distinction because the authentic skills and closely guarded secrets of Classical Feng Shui can’t be learned from books: they can only be conferred on students by a few internationally recognized Feng Shui Masters.

What is Vaastu?

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Vaastu Shastra is an ancient architectural design science that explains how to create environments in accordance with the laws of nature so that inhabitants experience support and prosperity. Like Feng Shui, Vaastu acknowledges patterns of energy that govern and shape all living beings – explaining why we feel uneasy in some environments and why we are uplifted in others. Thousands of years ago, the ancient sages in India saw the influence of these cosmic energies on living beings and they created a system of formulas for building auspicious homes and buildings by aligning them with specific energy patterns. Vaastu practitioners work with the perceived and imperceptible energies that surround us, using the ancient formulas to create environments that resonate positively so the inhabitants experience more meaningful and harmonious lives.

Vaastu Shastra originated 7,000 to 10,000 years ago in India. Vaastu means “abode” and Shastra means “knowledge”. Vaastu comes from the same vedic wisdom as yoga, meditation, and ayurveda. Research shows that Vaastu principles of dimension and orientation were utilized in the construction of St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Vatican, Stonehenge, the Egyptian and Mayan Pyramids, the Taj Mahal, and the Roman Coliseum. The Tirupati temple in South India, which is the richest temple in the world, was constructed according to the principles of Vaastu Shastra.

Vaastu is not about magical cures. It is built on formulas and practices developed from ten thousand years of observations about the energies of the cosmic universe and how the physical, psychological and spiritual order interact with man’s built environment.

Man does not inhabit this earth alone. He lives amidst other natural forms and is in touch with energies and elements that are perceptible and beyond perception. Man’s energy is linked with energy forms and he is part of kala, the cosmic cycle of time and death. These links are the unseen energies we usually experience as the “vibes” of a particular place.

Carelessly disturbing spaces – or building a structure in which the natural order is ignored – can be as dangerous as fooling around with live electrical wires. In fact, Vaastu warns that living in a discordant environment can unleash negative energies so powerful they can cause everything from infertility and accidents to relationship conflicts, disease, poverty, and insurmountable obstacles.

Classical Feng Shui: How Do I Know if I Need Feng Shui?

Friday, August 12th, 2011

You’ve tried everything: you’ve used best practices in your business, you’ve tried to work things out at home.  But no matter what you do, things either stay “stuck,” or they stay out of control.  Often, when nothing you do is working you need to address the unseen energies shaping your life. Everything in the universe is made up of energy. Every single day, we come into contact with a multitude of energies — from the people we encounter to the environments in which we live and work.  These energies can be beneficial (bringing in prosperity) or they can be negative (creating obstacles and misfortune).  The ancient sciences of Classical Feng Shui and Vaastu reveal how your environment is affecting your career, money luck, health and relationships.  But Feng Shui and Vaastu can do even more.  Let’s look closer:

1.  What you don’t know — or don’t believe — can still hurt you. Ignorance is not bliss.  Correctly done, an authentic Classical Feng Shui and Vaastu consultation can use time-tested mathematical formulas to reveal if a building is prone to fire, burglary, ill health or even legal hassles.  Should it scare you to know of such dangers? Not necessarily.  By knowing in advance you can exercise extra caution and even put remedies in place to minimize or even completely avoid a negative event.  There are even ways to turn around “negative energies” and use them to your advantage — this is included in the monthly advice I give my corporate clients, for example.

A very close friend of mine moved into a home that clearly indicated the potential for tumors and cancer.  Before she moved in, I told her what I saw.  She loved the house and said she didn’t believe in negative energies.  “Besides,” she said, “I can defy negative energies with positive intentions.” Well, whether or not we believe in the law of gravity, we are all affected by it.  The same can be said about the unseen energies around us. Five years after moving into the house my friend was diagnosed with breast cancer.

2.  What you do know with Feng Shui can alter your destiny. When authentic Classical Feng Shui and Vaastu are done correctly, there are ways to manipulate or even alter energies to help us get what we want.  Suppose, for example, a couple is having great difficulty conceiving a child.  A New Age Feng Shui consultant might simply say to put “baby trinkets” in the west or “children’s sector” of the home.  This isn’t just silly, it can be downright heartbreaking when months continue to go by without any hope of a child.

It takes powerful Feng Shui to alter powerful energies.  That’s why authentic Classical Feng Shui can make such a difference.  In fact, before the couple spends thousands of dollars on in-vitro fertilization, Classical Feng Shui can actually help tap into powerful energies that can make it easy to conceive. Plus, a trained consultant can calculate the best time for sexual relations to occur, further enhancing the likelihood of conception.

3.  Is it a bad economy … or bad Feng Shui? Whatever is happening in your life is a direct reflection of what is happening energetically in your home.  So, if you’re currently going through a rough time financially, you might need Feng Shui to help you figure out why clients are canceling, work is falling through, and there is not enough money. Instead of being a victim of bad economics, you might really be under the influence of bad energies that are sabotaging and suppressing your money luck.  Negative energy could also be the culprit if you’re struggling with a pattern of car accidents, legal hassles, or other bad news. The good news, however, is that authentic Feng Shui can not only pinpoint – and help neutralize – the energies creating obstacles to health, happiness and prosperity, a good consultant can also help you activate and harness positive energies.

So, who really needs Feng Shui and Vaastu?  Most everybody!  Because at some point in your life you’re going to come up against negative energies that you just can’t seem to get past.  When that happens – when you experience repeated obstacles, misfortune or stagnation — an authentic Feng Shui consultant can make all the difference!

Can you do your own Feng Shui or Vaastu?

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

There are hundreds of Feng Shui and Vaastu books out there so you could. But BE CAREFUL: virtually all these books offer overly simplified guidance and “one size fits all” recommendations. Feng Shui should not be confused with interior design, color therapy, or clutter clearing. It is far too powerful. That’s why it is far too risky to “play” with the principles yourself. I am regularly contacted by people who have created unfortunate situations for themselves because they applied seemingly harmless feng shui tips. In authentic or Classical Feng Shui, there simply is no one-feng-shui for all. Real Feng Shui knowledge will never be published for mass consumption. The calculations are too complex, the applications require too deep an understanding, and the authentic knowledge remains preserved in sacred books cloistered in Taoist temples. Classical Feng Shui knowledge is conferred only by Masters and only to students who undergo years of training and demonstrate the wisdom to carry out the principles faithfully. It is only through these practitioners that the true power of this science can be realized – and the potential for disastrously oversimplified “Feng Shui” avoided.

Do I have to believe in Classical Feng Shui to make it work?

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

You don’t have to believe. You DO have to follow the recommendations of your classically trained Feng Shui practitioner. That’s all it takes to see results. And when you see those results, you’ll most likely become a believer, too! Keep one thing in mind – you don’t have to believe in the law of gravity to make it work. And just because you can’t see something, doesn’t mean you’re not affected by it. Consider your thoughts, for instance: they can be changed in an instant, which then changes how you feel, thus bringing you back into balance. Like changing your thoughts, a Feng Shui expert can change invisible energies in your environment by adjusting them and advising you on how to interact favorably with them.

When can I expect to see results after a Classical Feng Shui consultation?

Monday, July 18th, 2011

Depending on the interaction of energies that exist between the house and the individual, it’s possible to see results almost immediately. Some clients see results quickly — within less than a week; others may see results within 6 months. A skilled Classical Feng Shui consultant, however, will take timing into account and advise you not just on how, but also on when you are most likely to achieve your goal. The key is to follow the recommendations promptly… and exactly.
